    傅爾布萊特獎學金是二次世界大戰後美國及各國政府共同支持下成立,歷史最悠久、規模最大且聲譽最高的跨國獎學金計畫。身為該計畫創始國之一,中華民國與美國目前已選送超過3,000位學術界、教育界、研究人員及政府領導階層的領袖菁英進行雙邊交流。今年度(民國103-104年)選送47位台灣與87位美國學者、學生、專業人士,進行交流。此影片透過傑出學友邱正雄先生現身說法,指出傅爾布萊特交換計畫對台灣的貢獻,以及對於「帶給世界多一點點知識,少一點點衝突」願景的維繫與實踐。

Why Fulbright Works for America?

    The Fulbright Program began after WWII and is the oldest, most prestigious large-scale exchange scholarship program supported by the U.S. and partner counties. The ROC was a founding partner, and the Program has jointly supported over 3,000 academic leaders, teachers, researchers, and leadership elites. In 2014-2015, 47 Taiwanese and 87 American scholars, student, and teachers participated. Many of the American Fulbright scholars and students shared their views on Fulbright Program’s effort to make “a world with a little more knowledge and a little less conflict.”

Teagan Adamson: Build knowledge to save lives

As a dual Fulbright-Whitaker Fellow at Academia Sinica’s Institute of Biomedical Sciences, she is working to engineer new molecules capable of improving current breast cancer treatment. 艾婷安在2013年於亞利桑那州立大學獲得生物醫學工程的碩士學位,她主要研究生物傳­感器和奈米技術在疾病上的應用。她不但獲得本年度的傅爾布萊特獎學金,同時也是惠特克­生物醫學工程獎學金的獲獎學者,其目前在中央研究院生物醫學研究所,致力於研究改善目­前乳癌治療的新分子。

學友連結計畫: 專訪邱正雄董事長 Alumni Engagement Innovation Fund – Distinguished Alumnus: Paul Chiu

    Among the outstanding Fulbright Alumni, Paul Chiu, the fifth and sixth Alumni Board Chair of the Taiwan Fulbright Alumni Association, is well-known. He served as the Deputy Governor of the Central Bank of the Republic of China, the Minister of Finance, Vice Premier of Executive Yuan, Associate Professor and later, Adjunct Professor of National Taiwan University of Economics and Honorary Chairman of Entie Commercial Bank. Now he is the Chairman of Bank SinoPac. He was publicly honored as “the world’s best Finance Minister in 1997-1998 Asian financial crisis” by former President, Lee Teng-hui.      There are three parts of this video. First is an introduction of Fulbright Taiwan Program and the Taiwan Fulbright Alumni Association. Second is an introduction of Paul Chiu’s life story and his success. Chiung-yao Ho: Does cross-cultural co-teaching work?

The Fulbright Taiwan is dedicated to the English co-teaching model and to improve the English literacy in Taiwan more than eleven years. On this journey, every English Teaching Assistants (ETAs) devoted their effort and energy to broaden the impact of the ETA program, so as the TEFL Professors, who provide professional training and counseling. As the TEFL professor of the year, Dr. Chiung-yao Ho has hold 25 workshops in Yilan, Taichung, Kaohsiung, and Kinmen for 33 ETAs and more than 70 local English teachers. After one year of observation and research, Dr. Ho answers the question “Does cross-cultural co-teaching work?” with tremendous confidence.   英語教師訓練之我見:傅爾布萊特系列講座     把英文學好,不止能提升學生的競爭力,也是替生命開一扇窗。台灣傅爾布萊特在英語協同教學領域耕耘了十一個年頭。過程中,除了每位英語協同教師的活力與努力之外,英語教學顧問與其帶領的培訓課程也功不可沒。何瓊瑤教授在台灣十個月的時間主持了25場工作坊,協助分布於宜蘭、台中、高雄、金門等33位美籍英語協同教師與70多位台灣籍本地教師提升他們的英語教學。在何教授駐台的一年之中,她反覆自問如何讓跨文化協同教學方法更有效,經過一年多的資料蒐集與分析後,她最後得到了令人滿意的答案。     何瓊瑤博士任教於美國德州休士頓孤星學院希費校區,專長於英語為第二語言的教學。她同時為Cambridge CELTA (劍橋成人英語語言教學) 培訓認證講師。何教授在英語為第二語言的教學這個領域已有超過15年的教學經驗,並於TESOL及NAFSA等國際年會發表。

Kurt Stallmann: Discovering the stories through “Sounds of Taipei”

The sounds of scooters, the voices selling in the night markets, the bell in the temples, every sound has profound meanings which shape a city’s identity.     Dr. Kurt Stallmann, an artist/professor from Rice University, sponsored by Fulbright scholarship, devotes himself to breaking the boundary between sounds and music. Dr. Stallmann collects and analyzes the unique identity of Taipei’s sounds and collaborates with the Taiwan Music Institute and several Taiwanese musicians to tell stories about the “Sounds of Taipei.” 台北的聲音:傅爾布萊特系列講座     城市中無處不在而卻常被忽略的聲音,聲音藝術家卻總能聽出不同的端倪。機車聲,夜市叫­賣聲,寺廟的鐘聲,每一種環境聲都有其背後的意涵,而每一座城市都有其獨特的聲音個性­。來自萊斯大學的史特丞教授暨藝術家透過傅爾布萊特獎學金的贊助,致力于打破聲音與音­樂之間的界限。他與台灣傳統藝術中心音樂館及多位台灣音樂家合作,透過蒐集與分析臺北­獨特的聲音個性,記錄了一個又一個的臺北聲音故事。     史特承博士同時身兼作曲家、表演者、即興演奏家等角色並時常跨領域與不同的藝術家合作。他不只擅長於樂器演奏同時也使用科技音樂與環境聲音進行創作。史特承博士現任美國萊斯大學薛弗音樂學院電子音樂中心主任及副教授。

Amber Kao: Dance to strengthen my roots

     Through dancing, Amber Kao tackles the ethnicity and identity issue she deals with every day. Dance brought her to her parent’s homeland and she has learned a whole new choreographic language with the master Lin Hwai-min and the Cloud Gate Theatre Dance Company. As a Fulbright fellow, Amber has also actively participated in performances around Taiwan sharing her passion for arts with the elementary students.     透過舞蹈,高恩倍致力於詮釋她常需面對的種族身分議題。也是經由舞蹈,她重新踏上台灣的土地,向林懷民老師與雲門舞集一同學習全新的語言。身為傅爾布萊特青年學人,在練舞、表演之餘,高恩倍也積極前往中小學演出,將她對藝術的熱情與台灣學生分享。

Barbara Foster: Printmaking in the age of digital everything

However, due to the popularity and low-cost of the printing tools, will the art and artists of printmaking become extinct? Simon Levin: Finding the new possibilities of local clay

    As an artist, one of Simon Levin‘s passions is a search for cultural identity. He believes indigenous clay is a metaphor for the malleable foundation upon which we respond to the world. Simon’s Fulbright journey has lead him to dig, process, test and explore the properties of domestic clay in the U.S. and Taiwan, re-introducing materials and local potential to the Taiwanese academic studio environment. 賽烈文(Simon Levin)陶藝個展:異相凝合     陶藝家賽烈文擅長運用傳統柴燒工藝與陶土釉藥實驗創作色彩斑斕的陶藝品。賽老師希望透過創作打破外來與本地陶土的貴賤高低之別,重新發現台灣陶土的可能性。他將分享他對本地陶土、文化以及台灣創作環境的觀察。     賽烈文先生是2012-2013傅爾布萊特資深學者,目前為台南藝術大學訪問學者。

Christine Yeh: Cultural Empowerment for Atayal Students

    Dr. Christine Yeh entered a 99 percent Indigenous community in Yilan, Taiwan to develop cultural Empowerment program. She focused on the community-school base in her curriculum development and assessment and she identified a niche emphasizing ethnic identity and educational opportunity. Dr. Yeh worked closely with Fulbright English Teaching Assistant (ETA), Mikael Owunna, and a local English teacher, Jennifer Huang, to establish this curriculum about cultural empowerment. The exciting results and student work will be displayed in a 2014 exhibition in the National Taiwan Museum. 台灣泰雅學童的文化賦權     葉晶博士深入宜蘭縣南澳鄉協助泰雅族部落開發文化賦權課程。她的研究主要圍繞著以社區和學校為基礎的課程建構與評鑑,尤其著重在族群認同及教育機會等。她與宜蘭英語協同教師Mikael Owunna及本地英語教師黃嘉雯共同開發了一系列的文化賦權課程,並預計於2014年於國立臺灣博物館展出相關成果。
